Justin Nichols

Justin Nichols is a Senior Attorney at Triangle Divorce Lawyers who helps individuals and families across North Carolina navigate divorce, separation, child custody, child support, spousal support, equitable distribution, mediation, domestic violence protective orders, and other family law matters. With 16 years of legal experience and 15 years focused on family law, Justin brings clear communication, practical strategy, and steady guidance to clients facing difficult family transitions.

Justin is often a strong fit for clients dealing with high-conflict custody matters, domestic violence-related concerns, abuse or trauma, and situations where it is important to carefully weigh settlement options against litigation. His approach focuses on helping clients feel heard, understand the legal process, and make informed decisions about their children, finances, and future.

Originally from Western New York, Justin earned his Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 2005. He moved to Raleigh to attend Campbell University School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, in 2010. Since then, North Carolina has become home.

Justin is licensed to practice in North Carolina state courts and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. His legal background includes family law, insurance defense, workers' compensation, civil litigation, Social Security-related matters, and estate planning. This broad experience gives him a practical perspective when helping clients evaluate their options, prepare for negotiation, or move forward in court when needed.

At Triangle Divorce Lawyers, Justin works with clients in Raleigh and across Wake, Chatham, Orange, Alamance, Guilford, Durham, and surrounding counties. He also has experience with international family law matters involving cultural considerations, which can be helpful for clients facing unique family, jurisdictional, or practical concerns.

Justin's work is also shaped by his commitment to education and community service. He is a frequent presenter for Second Saturday divorce workshops, has presented to community groups on domestic violence-related issues, taught a continuing legal education course on private terminations of parental rights, and contributed to the development of local rules on post-separation support in Chatham and Orange Counties.

Justin understands that divorce and custody matters can feel similar to a grieving process. Even when moving forward is the right decision, clients may still be processing the loss of the relationship they hoped they would have. Justin encourages clients to build the right support system while he helps guide them through the legal side of the process.

Outside of work, Justin lives in Apex with his wife, their three children, and their dog. He also enjoys reading and challenges himself each year to read 100 books.
